Comments: One need only to look at the history of vociferous anti-gay people who turn out to be gay to wonder about this
I'm spending the rest of the night trying to figure out if I'm a closet socialist...

Comments: Miguel,
Let's analyze one of your statements further...
Of course Totalitarian Socialism needs RWAs...that's implicit, So does Theocracy (Iran, Taliban, Saudi, Jonestown, Catholicism, Salem)...
Hmmm....
Iran - Socialist Centrally state planned economy. About 70% of companies are state owned, so I'll simplify and call this socialist.
Taliban - Socialist Centrally state planned economy by the Taliban. Property rights for political favor.
Saudi Arabia - Socialist Centrally state planned oil economy. Few property rights except as granted by the royal family.
Jonestown - Socialist utopia Just don't drink the Flavor-aid.
Catholicism - Socialist Centrally planned, no property rights for the priests.
Do you think the people become right-wingers from socialism, or is it that socialism follows the right-wingers desires?

Comments: Don...I don't know... I think that all people over estimate their abilities. It seems to me that this pathology is often associated with fear of wrong doing, thus the need to prohibit actions and situations which may lead to a lapse. One need only to look at the history of vociferous anti-gay people who turn out to be gay to wonder about this. It seems that there must an additional component, I would not be surprised if high RWA people scored lower on DK.

Comments: Miguel,
There has not been a socialist country which is not also totalitarian in humanity's recent past.
I can accept that RWAs exist on the political right. It is only the dishonest who cannot accept the fact that there are leftist RWAs. And based on humanity's recent history we should be fearful of the left, as they generally promote totalitarianism to meet their ends. 150-250 million dead humans due to the political left in the last century, compared to 10-30 million on the right.
Its among the only aspects that the socialists were efficient at... murder, slavery, rape... and directed propaganda verified by scientific research.

Comments: Don,
Thanks for reinforcing the view that RWA's can make decisions, while the socialists tend to leave decisions to people like... you,... Ha..

Comments: Miguel.
I also thought you could read. BUT....
When I asked for a single fact that I have been dishonest about, you can only point out an opinion that I have.
The last I checked, the Swedes were pretty happy with their property rights. Sweden is not socialist by any means.
And lastly, I never concluded that Altemeyer's purpose was to spread the falsehoods of socialism.
Strike 1, strike 2 and ... now you're out.

Comments: Of course Totalitarian Socialism needs RWAs...that's implicit, So does Theocracy (Iran, Taliban, Saudi, Jonestown, Catholicism, Salem)...for that matter freewheeling Totalitarian Capitalism (Mexican drug cartels, prohibition era Mafia, West African oil,). The point is that this trend towards totalitarianism and conformity lies with the political right in NORTH AMERICA.

Comments:
Miguel, rather than people "scared that they can't make good decisions on their own," I encounter people supremely confident that they are correct, despite the evidence to the contrary. Perhaps high-RWA people are especially prone to the Dunning-Kruger effect. It could be quickly settled by empirical observation, or perhaps already has been.

Comments: Intellectually Dishonest Doug.Second paragraph is an ad hominum attack...meant to marginalize and ignore the source.
The last line is false on it's face, Sweden is pretty damn socialist and has a high standard of living, per capita GDP comparable to the USA, lower crime and better healthcare.
I think you completely miss the point that this is NOT about socialism or capitalism...it's about Authoritarianism, and that in NORTH AMERICA those that primarily exhibit this pathology are politically Right Wing.
The fact that you draw the conclusion that promoting socialism is the purpose of the treatise says loads about your world view. I read this and found NO economic slant at all, the fact that you read this into means that you probably need to work harder to recognize when you are making the mistake of allowing your world view to distort your perceptions to the point that it no longer reflects reality. I read a warning about a dangerous pathology...that JUST HAPPENS to be concentrated in the political Right in this nation. I see the same in a number of smaller groups, the primary difference is that "union lackies" are unlikely to start an international war of aggression.

Comments: Don,
First of all, please give me a single fact I have been dishonest about... I realize that you cannot answer this question, as it shows your inability to do substantive research or shows that you can only promote your position through character attacks.
Secondly, I realize that, as most socialists, you are inadequately educated to function in a post-industrialized country. I don't blame you - I blame your parents. It was their duty to educate their children and they failed you. You should have learned that socialism has never been successful. Never, ever. Socialism equates to slavery.
You should have also learned that ad hominem attacks are attacks on the person. If you say you believe in the tenants of socialism - I get to call you a socialist. If Obama's administration increases a behavior that Altemeyer calls "RWA" - then I get to call the Obama asministration RWA. These are true and substantative attacks on the person. I think you are confused as not all ad hominem attacks are fallacious.
But confusion is what you have communicated as fact in support of a failed economic condition.

Comments: Miguel,
If you read prior posts you will see that Don is a former candidate for the presidency of the USA. Never heard of him?
You see he was the candidate for the socialist party. A system which is built on the state making decisions for the common man. It is likely socialist states rely most on authoritarianism, as it supresses all economic decisions. Socialism requires "right-wingers" according to Dr. Altemeyer's logic.
I did not communicate to my legislators before the Patriot Act was passed. You must understand that this legislation was passed in only a few days and I was involved in some heavy research project at the time. I have since contacted all my legislators about the privacy issues, and had a very lengthy public discussion with my US Senator on the Act at the time of the reauthorization. Please note that Obama also voted for the Patriot Act reauthorization.
Now, please tell me about your protest to Obama's expansion of privacy abuse... How about your protest of Obama authorizing the assination of an American just for expressing his freedom of speech?

Comments: Doug...Did you protest the Patriot Act? Are you calling your representatives?
Don... You're right. What are your feelings on my assertion that Authoritarian Followers are scared that they can't make good decisions on their own? How do you suppose that relates to the "born again" phenomenon of extreme dogmatism.

Comments:
Miguel, you've already figured out that Doug T. is an intellectually dishonest troll who uses ad hominem attacks. (Review your own posts if you think I'm putting words in your mouth.) And you've let him lead you so far off topic, I can't even see it from here. Why continue to engage him?

Comments: Suspected terrorists and drug king-pins could be tracked after obtaining a judicial warrant.
Where are you going? Where have you been? Show me your papers. The first two will be answered by GPS and the last will be likely an RFID chip embedded in your drivers license. No contact will be needed by law enforcement.
Of couse GPS shows location. With a simple calculation, speed could be determined. How about automated speeding tickets?
I am a supporter of individual privacy, including privacy of location.

Comments: DougThe initial activity was a "war on drugs" in the Bush era...better yet the precedent they cite is another "war on drugs" case from the 70's...perhaps declaring war is a bad idea.
Food for thought, would this be OK if it were a suspected terrorist? How about a drug king pin? How about a communist agitator?
What is the origin of your complaint...would it ever be OK? If so when? Civil rights belong to all, when any one has theirs removed we all do.
FWIW It is typical for administrations to continue the appeals of previous admins...it's a continuity thing.
